In History the week of 1/6/21

On January 6th, 2021 the U.S. Congress convened to certify the electoral votes, and just down the National Mall near the White house there was a demonstration, approximately 30,000 trump supporters. As I was in mid walk, and on my way back to my room, there was an eerie energy that came about. Often when I feel this I must say a prayer of protection. The energy was not far away. The demonstrators made their way to the Capitol where the Presidential election was ceremoniously certifying the election for President elect Biden and VP Harris. A riot broke out and a siege of our Nations capitol was attacked. Residents in our Hall were glued to the t.v. watching the News of the breach was definitely appalling but I wasn’t surprised. Later in the evening the D.C. area sent out an emergency alert on all cell phones in the area by voice and message of a curfew and that no one was to be out after 6PM.

Crisis brings about the opportunity to transform to do better and be better. Whether it is a nation in strife and coming to terms with itself, just as a human, change comes within. The best of the best leaders can bring together a nation in collaboration and cooperation. Education is key. No more falsehoods, no more suppression, and true history must be shared across our nation. With that comes respect, understanding and empathy. And with that comes a powerful nation.

As the week progressed the demonstration turned sedition and insurrection came to a sad close of a police office who lost his life and 4 others. Flags as the Capitol were flown half mast in respect to life lost. A man with a family, a man who was protecting and defending democracy. This week revealed those who prevent a greater union, and with revelations can come evolution.
